Ibaraki University aims to conduct the highest standards of education. We are going to take the examination for recognition by the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education, (JABEE). In so doing, we are proceeding with greater positive changes and expansion of our education system.

The Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Urban and Civil Engineering were recognized by JABEE in 2006.

At Ibaraki University, the Department of Mechanical Engineering, and the Department of Urban and Civil Engineering were the first to apply for JABEE, and were successfully recognized by JABEE in 2006. Other departments are now making progress to follow suit by preparing to take the examination for recognition by JABEE.

JABEE Recognition

The Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education is an independent organization that can fairly evaluate the engineering programs at universities and decide on accreditation or not. Accreditation is only given if the engineering education program of an institution of higher learning, such as a university, fulfills the JABEE requirements and high standards. If you graduate from a JABEE -accredited program, you may register as an Associate Professional Engineer.

Receiving JABEE Recognition

You will be exempted from the primary examination of Professional Engineer. If you pass a JABEE-accredited program and the final examination, you will be able to obtain the license of Professional Engineer. You will be recognized as a professional engineer equal to those who have completed an engineering education program recognized by all member organizations of the Washington Accord.
